At Art at Work event
By a display of my work at a demo event

I enjoy the freedom and surprise associated with painting with oils combined with cold wax medium. I choose a limited palette of colours and apply them with a silicon bowl scraper tool onto the support. A few layers of paint are blended, scraped away and reworked until my experiences and memories of landscapes are sparked and the painting resolves. Most of my work painted in this intuitive way is in a small format.

More preparation is involved with painting in watercolours. Compositions are developed from plein air sketches and monochrome studies. Again, I choose a limited palette but premix the paint to the right consistency. Then I paint quickly all in one session, working loosely with the fluid colours to communicate the light and texture of the landscape.

I retired early from a teaching career and was glad to have time to focus on my love of painting. I had painted on silks with vibrant dyes for many years, so naturally progressed to colourful work on paper and board. I continued learning by attending workshops with brilliant artist tutors and have gradually developed my own artist style.

I am a member of the Wirral Society of Arts and have exhibited both locally and nationally.
